Chasing the Storm

A Pursuit of a Faith That Works

An Apostle's Recipe for Powerful Faith

Many Christians value getting involved in the work of the gospel.  They have great intentions and want to please God, but they are beset by frustration, disappointment, and failure.  Many congregations have difficulty getting past petty disagreements or become isolated from their environments.  They “hold their own” but offer no real change to their communities.

For the Christian, productivity should be less about getting finished than about getting results.  How many of Jesus’ teachings emphasize the production of fruit?  For too long we have focused on being efficient and orderly and have neglected being effective.  We measure growth by how few disruptions occur and comfort ourselves that we are “growing in spirit.”  Is that a biblical concept?

As we bravely dig into Peter’s recipe for a powerful faith you will begin to feel your environment change, like a cold front telling you something significant is on the horizon.  You will begin to see a profound impact on those around you that is undeniable and unmistakable.  Together we will chase this storm, take hold of it, and come away empowered by a faith that works!

About Me

B.A., Bible, Freed-Hardeman University (2006)
Emphasis in Biblical Languages

I have served as a minister in the churches of Christ since 2005, most recently with the Marlow congregation in Walnut, MS, and the Batesville, MS, congregation from 2009 to 2015.

I stepped back from congregational work in 2020 to focus on developing specialized curricula such as “Chasing the Storm.” The book and my translation of the New Testament can be purchased from the “Books” link at the top of this page.

I love spending time with my favorite people (my wife and children), and you’ll typically find me messing with either a guitar, computer, or Rubik’s cube in my free time.

Chasing the Storm Overview

Part I
Storm Warning

When Peter shares his recipe for a powerful Christian life, he begins with diligence and faith.  In this session we will talk about this foundation and explore how we can nurture habits to help us develop these characteristics.  Without them the others cannot develop.

Part II
Mesocyclone

The second session explores the upward spiral at the center of the effective Christian’s lifestyle.  We learn how virtue, knowledge, self-control, and persistence interrelate, as well as how they depend on faith and diligence to continue to fuel them.

Part III
Hook Echo

As the mesocyclone continues to swirl, the events happening high above the earth begin to make their way downward in cool gusts of wind and precipitation.  In the Christian’s life this manifests in godliness and kindness.  God’s will in heaven is being done on earth.

Part IV
Touchdown

The final segment examines the power displayed when a Christian’s faith contacts the upside-down world around them.  It flips that worldview back upright and leaves an undeniable impact.  This is how people will know that your faith is the real deal.

Chasing the Storm is available in a weekend seminar or gospel meeting format and can be abbreviated to a half-day session.
